| SAN QUENTIN STATE PRISON -- A man newly arrived at San Quentin State Prison after being convicted of murder and drunken driving in the death of a 9-year-old Novato girl was fatally stabbed by another inmate, authorities said Tuesday. Edward John Schaefer, 44, of Novato was stabbed in the chest and neck at about 10:35 a.m. Monday in the prison's reception center yard and died that night, said Lt. Sam Robinson, prison spokesman. | Authorities say an Allen woman accused of killing her husband was determined to finish the job but made no attempt to flee the bloody scene. His wife, 51-year-old Kimberly Shanks, was being held Tuesday in the Collin County Jail, charged with murder. Unlike most people in her situation, she smiled for her mug shot. The Shankses had lived at their home in the 1400 block of Lone Star Court in Allen for 14 years, a neighbor said.
